It seems like it was only
yesterday. It was June,
2005 and I was running for
the Office of Treasurer. It
would be many years before
reaching the Commodore's
position. All of a
sudden it's March 2010 and
I have now taken over the
reins as your Commodore
for the 2010-2011 year. I
have no idea where the
time went feeling like Rip
Van Winkle. One day you
wake up and here it is. So...
here we go mates, aarrrghh,
setting sail into the new
year with lots of events in
store.
First off a hearty thanks
to Steve and Carol for all
their hard work and many
accomplishments throughout
the 2009 year. I know I
speak for all of us in wishing
them well and extending
our sincere appreciation
for a job well done.
Keep these dates in
mind. March kicks off with
the traditional St. Paddy's
Day Dance scheduled for
March 13th. Joe and Cathy
Maher have put together a
great committee which has
a good time in store for you.
If you haven't already purchased
your tickets please
be sure to sign up.
Kids, get
ready to greet the Easter
Bunny on Sunday, March
28.
Coming up in April will
be a Fish & Chips Dinner on
Friday April 2nd and of
course the annual Change
of Command on April 10th.
If anyone would like to join
a committee for one of the
upcoming functions, please
don't be bashful. Give me a
call and we will connect you
with a committee chair person.
With each day we come
closer to Dock Day which is
scheduled for April 3rd this
year. Can't wait to get the
docks open and boats start
coming in to signal a new
boating year. Please plan to
come on down and help
with the activities to put the
Club in shape for the new
season. More information
can be found elsewhere in
this newsletter and be sure
to watch for postings for all
the events scheduled for
this year.
In closing I would like
to thank all you who have
so generously volunteered
your time to chair and work
on committees to make the
upcoming year another
great one. I thank you for
all your support, assistance
and sacrifices that are the
heart and soul of this outstanding
organization.
I am
proud to be a part of this
group and look forward to
carrying on the fine traditions
of the Westerly Yacht
Club.
David Rizzuto.
Commodore.
