Hot! Hot! Hot! Yeah baby,
that’s what summer is all
about. Summertime, but the
livin’ ain’t easy. Air conditioners
are running full bore. Isn’t
it great?
We’re winding down
the summer and moving into
the fall season. The kids are
heading back to school and
the football season is upon
us. I, for one, think September
is the best time of the
year.
August was a busy
month with Venetian Night
kicking it off in style. The
street vendor theme was well
received, the food plentiful
and fantastic and the weather
was beautiful. Thanks to
those of you who decorated
your boats. The best of show
winner was Dave and Shelley
Delisle with the Polar Bear
theme and of course the luge
was a huge success. I’m
sorry for those who did not
get to experience it. Many
thanks go to Mike Cardente
and his committee who
worked so hard to make the
event a huge success.
Our Fleet Review followed
the next day with beautiful
weather again and a
great turnout of participants
for the parade. It was a sight
to behold watching the long
line of WYC boats motoring
out to Stonington Harbor for
the ceremony. Afterward,
the food and prizes were
plentiful for those who participated.
Thank you to Roger
and Alice Page and your
committee for an outstanding
event. Also a big thank you
goes out to Kathy Tuttle for
risking life and limb hanging
off the bow of the whaler taking
pictures of all of the boats.
Thanks again to Rick and
Claudia Traskos for providing
the command boat for the
parade.
The 75 Club concluded
another season with the annual
banquet on Friday the
13th. It was far from a horror
show as the date might lead
you to believe. The hall was
packed tight with a record
turnout, everyone enjoyed a
wonderful meal and many
went home with really great
prizes. A hearty thanks to
Mike and Debi Choquet and
their committee for all their
time and effort week after
week all through the summer.
On Sunday, August 15th
we enjoyed a wonderful
brunch to celebrate and toast
our Past Commodores.
These are the men to whom
we all owe a great debt of
gratitude. Over the years
they have dedicated themselves
unselfishly to make
this Club what it is today. An
organization we are all proud
of with a facility second to
none. I know I speak for all of
the membership in saying
thank you so very, very much
for all your hard work and
personal sacrifice. I for one
can now appreciate what you
have accomplished. Thanks
go out to Dave and Brenda
Santos and Bill and Cheral
Armstrong and their committee
and thanks to Scott Howard
and his team who prepared
all the wonderful food
in our kitchen.
Still in August (what a
month) the nostalgia of the
50’s was back with poodle
skirts and DA’s. It was great
to see everyone dressed in
their Sunday best for a 1950’s
dance. Again, another sellout
WYC function. The meatloaf
dinner was superb with many
dessert treats and the band,
Reminisce, did a fabulous
show bringing you the Doo-
Wop music of the 50’s. A big
thanks to the function chairs,
Galen and Barbara Hoffman
and Len and Kitty Kaminski
and their committee for an
excellent job organizing this
event.
Around the Club you
have noticed the lighting between
G and H docks.
Thanks to Dave Robertson
for heading up this project.
The lights look good and do
an excellent job of lighting the
walkway. Additional security
cameras have been installed
to cover the parking lot shed
area and the swimming pool.
We will also be adding a couple
more to cover the back of
the facility, completing the
docks. At that point we will
have full 360 degree coverage
of the entire facility.
Looking ahead we will be
adding new railings to the
loading dock and also to the
deck and stairs.
Keep your eye on the
schedule for these coming
events:
- Sep 01 – Pot Luck at the
Pool
- Sep 04 – Pool Tournament
& Pot Luck w/
Karaoke
- Sep 11 – Fisherman’s
Dance
- Sep 12 – Commodores
Cup Race
- Sep 24 – Friday Night
Dinner
In the meantime, keep cool,
and we’ll see you around the
Club.
David Rizzuto.
Commodore.
