Dock and Mooring Rules

1. Slip/Mooring Assignments: Slips & moorings will be assigned by the Harbormaster in conjunction with the Dock committee and approved by the Board of Directors each year.

2. Dock Line Requirements: All boats shall have bow, stern and spring lines. All lines shall be in good condition, without excessive wear or chafe. Boats up to 21' shall be secured by 3/8" or greater nylon line, or its equivalent. Boats from 22' to 36' shall have 1/2" or greater nylon line, or its equivalent. Boats greater than 36' shall have 5/8" or greater nylon line, or its equivalent.

3. HAZMAT Removal: Members shall remove all waste oil, batteries and any other hazardous waste material from the club property for proper disposal. No hazardous material shall be left in the club dumpster or its enclosure (includes oil, gasoline and filters).

4. Dinghy Dock: The Dinghy Dock is to be used for the dinghies of the member's assigned moorings. At no time is it to be used for the docking of member's boats. It also may be used short term (24 hours) for the dinghies of members that have used their dinghy to get to the club from some other location (transient). Members that are assigned to moorings will be issued tags stamped with their mooring I. D. number, which is to be attached to their dinghy.

5. Marina Speed Limit: A speed of 5 MPH shall not be exceeded within the marina.

6. After Hours/Evenings: Sirens and horns shall not be used at slips and moorings after dark or early mornings except in emergencies. Entertaining on boats shall be conducted in an orderly manner, causing no disturbance to fellow members.

7. Charter/Renting Boats: Chartering or renting of boats docked or moored at the club is strictly prohibited.

8. Overboard Discharge: Overboard discharge of sanitary or holding tanks is prohibited within the marina. A pump out service is available at the Gas Dock.

9. Child Safety: All members, guests and children shall use the docks in a safe and orderly manner. Children under 8-years of age shall wear a PFD or be accompanied by an adult at all times.

10. Dock Modifications: Any additions, changes or modifications to the docks or surrounding areas (including the addition of dock boxes, steps rugs, access ramps extensions, etc.) must be submitted in writing to the Chairman of the Dock Committee for approval. All approved additions, changes, or modifications will be mounted or attached by WYC maintenance personnel only. This is to ensure that standardized equipment is utilized throughout the Marina where possible.

11. Open Fires: No open fires, including gas and charcoal grills, are allowed on boats or docks.

12. Transporting Fuel: Transporting or carrying fuel onto the docks for the purpose of refueling is prohibited.

13. Launch Ramp: The Launch ramp is for the exclusive use of WYC members.

14. Boat Trailers: Trailers shall not be parked in the area adjacent to the launch ramp. All trailer parking is restricted to the grass area adjacent to the crushed stone parking lot directly in front of the Clubhouse or temporarily in the launch staging area. Trailers shall not be parked on the club property for mare than three consecutive days (72 hours).

15. Vehicle Parking: Vehicles without parking stickers and all guest vehicles shall be parked in the crushed stone parking lot.

16. Club Liability: The Westerly Yacht Club will not be held responsible for any damage to boats moored, docked or launched at the club.

17. Dock Boxes: In an effort to ensure that the docks are maintained in a safe and professional manner it is necessary to establish standards where possible. All dock boxes must meet the following criteria:

a. Constructed of white fiberglass that has a footprint: Width = 48" Depth = 20" Height = 18"
b. Items that contain hazardous material are not allowed in dock boxes such as: Gas tanks, propane tanks, chemicals or solvents that could cause a fire if spilled or mixed etc.
c. No nailing, drilling, mounting etc. is permitted unless approved by the dock committee.
d. All dock boxes shall be removed and stored by the owner at the end of the boating season. The dock committee will remove any dock boxes not removed by the owner, which may require cutting of lock to gain access to mounting screws. The owner will be charged a fee of $75.00 for removal and storage.

18. Portable Lights: For safety reasons, due to the long spans between pilings, the electrical cords could be at neck height during tide changes or possibly sag in the water etc. Portable lights that were used for decoration purposes (i.e. Venetian Night) are no longer permitted.

19. Dock Decorations: To ensure an appropriate appearance to the entire Marina, any dock decorations must be submitted and approved by the Dock Committee. This includes head-of dock signs, fixtures and enclosures.

20. Electrical Cables: Only standard marine cables are allowed on the docks.

21. Dock Cleaning: There will be no chemicals or high-pressure water allowed for cleaning the docks or equipment on the docks.

22. Air Conditioners: HVAC's are to be de-energized if your boat is unoccupied during the week.

23. Boat Inspections: The Westerly Yacht Club reserves the right to go aboard any boat at the WYC Marina to ensure that the boat does not present a hazard to the WYC marina or other boats docked or moored at the WYC marina.

24. Float Plan: If you are going to be away from the WYC Marina for two nights or more, it is required that you notify the Fleet Captain or his designate.

25. Dock Encroachment: Boats in slips may not overhang the dock (davits, pulpits, etc.).

26. Fish Cleaning Stations: All Bluefish and Striped Bass carcasses must be placed in black plastic bags and disposed of in the dumpster. Cleaning stations and dock carts are to be thoroughly cleaned after use.

27. Boats in Running Condition: For safety reasons, as of April 1st, 2006, all boats must be brought into the marina under their own power and be in running condition.

28. Dock and Mooring Rule Infractions: Any infraction of these rules will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and may result in the loss of slip, mooring and club privileges. Members suspended for any violations of club rules shall be required to remove their boats from club property during the term of suspension.
